Hi All!! Soooo, recently I had a change in plans in my life...so I decided that if I'm going to keep up this blog thing, I need a writing space. It's not anything too fancy, but I love it! My bf was using the office all to himself and we hadn't done anything to it since we moved in. It was not cute...imagine if lavender mixed with pepto bismol and had a hideously pink baby. That color was on the walls. And to top it all off it had those ridiculous decals on the wall (ya, I said it), that said "My Little Angel". Ok, that had to go! So we painted the room a color called Northwest Trail from Glidden and it looked great. It instantly warmed up the room and is still neutral enough to compliment almost anything. My desk is actually a dumpster dive piece from some aparments I lived in a while ago. It was a little rough, but since I don't have the patience or money right now to spruce it up, I just rubbed some Old English over it and it was much improved! The only thing left was accessorizing. So, I made a trip to my favorite store-TJ Maxx!- and got some great pieces. Here is a pic of the almost finished project. And by almost, I mean, I need a new desk chair :) Forgive my not so fantastic photography skills! Someday I might update the desk, but I like it for now. It's kind of vintage-y and funky. If anything, my quick fix would probably be just to change the drawer pulls....but who knows??
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed a little view into my humble writing space :) What room are you thinking about revamping??

Hi All!! I found a wonderful little bench the other day and I wanted to share it with you..so today, I Spy..... The CB2 Principle Bench! I think this little piece is cute, modern, and very versatile. I am featuring it in an entryway today, but it could be used many places. In a bedroom at the foot of the bed, at a dining table, a mudroom, sun room, covered porch, or just an extra seat in a living room. So here's my take on this awesome bench. And I know, the shelves look pretty bare, but, yes, I would style them with cute frames, artwork, sculptural items, souveniers, baskets--the possiblities are endless! If you want more help with styling shelves, nightstands, tables, etc., feel free to pop over to my "Styled" pinterest board for some inspiration! Enjoy! Paint Color | Art Hello! Today I want to share with you a space that I like to call "The Aviary Room" I imagine this as a sun room, library, or just a sitting room-even better in a space where you can watch the birds with a soothing cup of tea and a good book. With a nice calming blue on the wall and an unexpected pop of lime green here and there, it is relaxing and fun at the same time. And of course it features some lovely birds on the wall ;) Enjoy! Hello everyone! Recently I read a story about two little girls who were involved in a fatal accident after playing on or around the dresser in their room. So, today I want to talk about something very important...falling furniture. One of the responsibilities I have as an Interior Designer is to make sure I am taking care of the health, safety, and welfare of my clients. This could be anything from ADA compliance to simply securing a bookcase to the wall in a child's room. And it doesn't have to be a child's room, any room with heavy furniture (bookcases, tv stands, cabinets, armoires, dressers), should have the large furniture affixed to the wall. While researching this topic I found this alarming info from whattoexpect.com: "While childhood injuries from car accidents have come down in the last 20 years (thanks to car seats and boosters), injuries from heavy furniture (TVs, dressers, bookcases, shelves, cabinets, and so on) falling on young children have increased by 41 percent since 1990. The statistics are alarming: Approximately 15,000 children each year are injured seriously enough from furniture falling on them to require a trip to the emergency room. And during those years, there have been 300 deaths among children injured after a television or piece of furniture fell on them." (whattoexpect.com) So, what can you do to provide a safe environment for your family? Here are some good tips from whattoexpect.com:
Here are some good websites for purchasing furniture securing items:

As we start a family, eventually our little babies grow into self-expressive, opinionated, curious, and adventurous teenagers. When designing a space for them, it's important to remember function, but still keep it fun and all about the individual. As kids grow into teenagers, they begin to form more solid ideas, values, and tastes. This is why the first thing I recommend when designing a teenage space is to remember the person living inside the room-put a little flair and individuality into it! So, here are some ideas:
I've put together a girls bedroom with a grown up Parisian influence. No poodle dogs or cartoony Eiffel Towers here, just an artistic, sophisticated space for a very creative teenage girl. Enjoy! Nightstand/Bed (similar)/Bench/Rug/ (similar)/Chair (similar)/Chest/Chandelier/Paint Color
Pillows: Green/Bonjour/Trellis Artwork: Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful/Theater/Chinese Girl/Green Cat Aging in Place - Living comfortably in your home for many years to come! Good Afternoon!! It's a lovely Saturday and I'm really excited to talk to you today about Aging in Place. This is a concept centered around being able to live in your own home well into your twilight years . This could entail remodeling your home to fit your needs or starting from scratch. According to ageinplace.org, there are approximately 10,000 people turning 65 everyday. That means that by 2020, 45% of all homeowners will be 55 or older! There is definitely a need for this, and National Association of Home Builders estimates that 70% of all homeowners completing a remodel are planning for future needs.
So whether you are having a loved one come live with you, or you are planning for your own future, here are some tips to help out. Bathrooms - A walk in shower is ideal with no more than a 4" threshhold. A bench is recommended for comfort and utility. Single lever faucets and anti-scald devices should also be used to avoid burns. Grab bars help for getting in and out of the shower and for assistance on and off the toilet. It is also nice to have an open area under the vanity to provide room for a wheelchair or seat. An aesthetic option is keeping the doors on the vanity that may be opened when needed or you can simply have a stylish floating sink. Kitchens- Consider the layout - is it functional and accessible at the same time? Roll-out shelves in the cabinets add an easy way to grab items needed in a wheelchair or standing. Knobs are easier to open than handles and lowering the appliances may be helpful as well. The appliances should also have easy to read and use controls. Also consider pathway lighting to assist in movement at night, wider hallways and doorways, ground level additions, or even adding an elevator to help with multi-level houses. There is so much more I could say on this topic and, don't worry, I will! This is something that is near and dear to me and I do believe that people can have a full, safe life in their own home, no matter what age. Stay tuned for more! Hi Everyone!
